“Slowing down the Ayurvedic way : a journey towards inner self.”

Ayurveda is the science of life: teaches about all the aspects of life and how to bring harmony within which is the ultimate solution of all the illnesses. as per Ayurveda, health is not just the absence of diseases but it’s a state of harmony between body, mind, spirit and environment. recent era is overstimulating, everyone’s life has speed up and each day and with each moment it keeps increasing. we have gained so much in terms of wealth, technology and material aspects, but same time we are loosing so much, we are loosing our health, our peace, our relationships and many more important aspects because of this fast-paced world.
We have been preoccupied with productivity since the beginning of the Industrial
Revolution, and for the past couple of centuries we have been increasing the pace of our lives. We have so many things to do, we can get more done in a day, and we have unimaginable convenience—and yet, we are stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, and dissatisfied. We have gained so much, but what have we lost? What has been the real cost?
We have lost our peace, our happiness. if you look around People are manic and panicked, people are frustrated and agitated , they are are anxious and overwhelmed. Why? what is the reason?
We all are looking for happiness and that is the ultimate desire we have. only the path we have chosen to find peace and joy that is wrong. we want everything quickly, we have lost our ability to follow patience. because of the speed at which we do anything that can change the nature of experience of that work. because of the speed we lose the experience of joy and also the result we were expecting from that action. above all we lose very important thing and that is our connection with our selves , with the nature and with the present moment.
Slowing down doesn’t mean that we become less productive, it is about doing things consciously with presence and care. it is about reclaiming our life from the grip of speed.

Why we need to slow down?
Ayurveda views rushing, over stimulation and irregularities as a Vata imbalance . vata dosha is responsible for movement, communications becomes aggravated by speed and change. Our nervous system is not designed for rush, the fast pace over stimulates the mind, exhausts the body and decreases the power of senses. in long run it imbalances vata dosha that leads to anxiety, fatigue, stress, insomnia and poor digestion.

When we slow down:
We breath deeply: we observe the breath within us which keeps us alive and through which we connect to ourselves.
We think clearly: we observe our thoughts and we can understand our mind is accumulations of the collected information and thoughts during our lifetime. our mind is not we.
We eat more mindfully : mindfully eating will teach us the connection between external world and internal universe.
We sleep properly: sound sleep is a stage of deep meditation.
We reconnect with joy, purpose and intuition.
if we slow down, it will help us in making our mind one-pointed, in getting some measure of control over our senses, and in being very supportive of those around us.

Slowing down is natural.
Ayurvedic science reminds us that we are a part of nature. nature has rhythm: the gentle mornings, the calm of twilight, the changing seasons. when we align ourselves with this gentle flow balance returns. the practice of Ayurvedic selfcare is one aspect of creating an integral mind- body relationship that increases harmony and produces a calming quality in our life. when we are in harmony it naturally increases our connections with the universal natural things. only when we slowdown we can see our relationship, our thoughts.

What does Slowing down looks like in Ayurveda:
🌿 Dinacharya: Anchoring in Routine
A consistent daily rhythm calms Vata and supports overall health. Waking up early, having herbal tea as per our body energy types and imbalances, pranayama breathing , meditation and Abhyanga oil massage, warm meals at regular times, and early bedtime—these are not just good habits, but grounding rituals.
🌿 Mindful Eating
Ayurveda emphasizes eating in a calm environment, without distraction, chewing thoroughly, and honoring food as nourishment. with mindful eating we appreciate the energies of the food that nourishes us. Eating fast or on the go weakens Agni (digestive fire), leading to toxin accumulation (Ama).
🌿 Sattvic Lifestyle: The Ayurvedic concept of Sattva—clarity, peace, and harmony—thrives in slowness. When we reduce sensory overload, limit digital distractions, and spend time in nature or in silence, Sattva increases. This nurtures mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual connection.
🌿 Herbs and Therapies That Support Slowness: Certain Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, and Jatamansi help calm the mind and nervous system. Therapies like Shirodhara, Nasya, and Abhyanga are especially beneficial in pacifying Vata and inviting stillness within.
Wisdom is not something we have to strive to acquire. Rather, it arises naturally as we slow down and notice what is already there. As we notice more and more in the present moment, we come to a deeper realization that a silent observer is within us. In the primordial stillness, the silent observer witnesses everything inside and outside. If we can see the face of the silent observer, then we have found our original face, from before we were born. When we see the real one within us we can have ability to see the real one within everyone which is one. having this knowledge of oneness in all leads us to understand the reality. we will learn the difference between body-mind and soul. we will be able to know ourselves not only as a body-mind but much more the it and then we will find that all the sorrows, worry, stress, demands, expectations are illusion of mind not mine.
Just think if we don’t have any stress, worry, expectations then how will be our life, there will be joy and happiness only, for which we have came in this universe. slowing down does not mean to be lazy or doing nothing, actually after knowing reality about ourselves we will be more productive, more clear but the perception will be changed and enjoyment will be there. learning to slow down internally, in the mind. The more we slow down the thinking process, the more control we have over our lives. When we slow down we return to our essence, we remind our selves that we are not here to rush through life but to experience it fully.
so take a deep breath, feel your feet on the ground. sip warm tea and listen the sound of breeze. life is already here, waiting to meet you in the quiet.
Thank you for taking time to read this blog, hope you enjoyed it. see you next month with an interesting topic since then slowdown and enjoy the life.
