
Ayurveda is the science of life. Ayurvedic sages were always concerned about people’s health and for the good health of people, they have suggested some Ayurvedic principles which can help us to live healthy life.ancient Ayurvedic philosophers has mentioned that each person is unique and this applies to their body constitution as well, that is why these principles should be unique for each individual. Today we will learn some common Ayurvedic principles which can be followed as a general and can help us to maintain our health. As we know our (Canadian )lifestyle is fast and we may not be able to adopt all the principles of Ayurveda, so I will go for the most common and basic principles. You do not need to strictly follow all these but we can try to implement some of these principles for our better health. ancient Ayurvedic philosophers have suggested
- Lifestyle and daily routine.
- Wake up with sunrise, Actually Ayurvedic sages have suggested to wake up in Brahma Muhrat which is 4-a.m. to 6 a.m., this the best time for brahma or Atma gyan or spiritual practice. It has many health benefits, hope, inspiration and peace can be visible at this time.
- practice pranayama and meditation everyday.(Preferred in the morning)
- Practice yoga poses , morning walk or evening walk.
- Always be happy, cheerful and kind.
- While you are in bed, meditate or prey for the peace of mind.
- go to bed before 10-00 p.m.
- Diet Routine.
- Every person should know their Prakriti or body type and follow diet and routine according to your body constitution.
- Diet and activity should be followed keeping your body constitution in mind. should avoid the diet and activity which can imbalance the basic energies.
- Always eat when you feel hungry and at fixed scheduled time, Your gastrointestinal track will be adjusted to eat at certain time.
- Eat in seated position and with calm mind.
- Quantity of food should be according to the need, According to Ayurveda one half of the stomach should be filled with solid food, one fourth with the liquid and we should keep the remaining one forth empty.
- Each mouthful should be in small quantity and should be chewed for 30-32 times. That will help to ease digestion process.
- Avoid talking, laughing, watching television while eating.
- Avoid junk food, processed food, and opposite food combination.
- After each meal seat with calm mind for 5-10 minutes then walk for 100 steps and then lie on left side, as our stomach is curved on left side that will help for easy digestion of food.
- If you are not hungry, do not eat because stomach is not ready for food.
- skip one meal( one meal fasting) in a week is the best way to provide rest to the digestive system. This will help to detoxify the body and will energize the digestive system.
- Regularly emptying bowel. if needed use mild laxative herbs (Once a week). water drinking in the morning and some special yoga poses can help for easy bowel movement.
- avoid late night eating.
